What makes Leigh Ledare’s photos so complex is their combination of emotional power and sexual provocation. His extremely personal and (auto)biographical work often features his mother, Tina Peterson, an ex-dancer and model. Ledare, formerly an assistant to Larry Clark, took pictures of her over an eight-year period. The photos, often showing her in highly erotic poses, bring out her psychological fragility and her failing health as well. Few artists have so directly staged the incestuous desires lying hidden in all relationships between children and their parents. *1976, Seattle, lives and works between New York and Los Angeles
