A photographer whose breakthrough came when she was nominated for the prestigious Deutsche Börse Photography Foundation Prize in 2015, Viviane Sassen is today incontestably a leading figure in contemporary fashion photography. The signature feature of her artistic work, oscillating between photography and art, is her use of geometric forms, abstract bodies and shadows. While she often draws on her memories of her childhood in Africa, she has always considered her productions to be a mirror allowing her to summon up the world of dreams and take control of her subconscious. Through her work, Sassen invites the viewer to probe the least visible aspects of the human body and psychology.
